Not too long ago I got into a very one sided conversation with a man at Venice Beach about Pj Harvey, one sided because at the time the name didn't mean jack shit to me, and then went home and immediately forgot about it. Somehow I remembered the other day and decided to do a little research the napster way. And now I really wish I hadn't lost that man's card, because she's amazing and anyone who could rave about her the way he did must be an amazing person.
Oh Polly Jean you are proof that England produces the best music.

Micachu
Recently introduced to me by one of my roommates (who is a wonderful artist in her own right.) Micachu! Being stoned when she said it, I honestly thought she sneezed... An alternative band from the UK, they have a pop feel that's very 'picnic on a spring day'. Maybe they'll make it out of Europe at some point and visit LA??? I'm sure the echo would happy to have them...

Treasure!
Missed out on all the other summer festivals because you're a working stiff? (It's ok, I hear they totally sucked....) Perhaps now you've managed to save up enough to catch treasure island. I haven't, but I'm sure if I pick up dealing now I could pull in 4-500 in the next week or so. Maybe? The line-up includes the Brazilian Girls, Beirut, and MGMT. Some Flaming Lips? Plus, I'll be there. Come party!Or, you can stay home and read about Tom Yorke's new band (a little radiohead love, anybody?) The debut show was at the echoplex last Friday. Lucky for me, I was working. -rolls eyes- Apparently a manic show, I could've announced my love for Flea from RHC, then thrown my shirt on stage and passed out. So many regrets..... Did anyone get to see it?
Peace.
Or not.

Darjeeling
Dunno how The Darjeeling Limited got turned on but I'm not complaining. Wes Anderson's coming out with a movie of Roald Dahl's The Fantastic Mr. Fox, which I'm kinda excited for. Currently more excited to download The Darjeeling Limited Soundtrack which I've been meaning to do for a while.

Dylan
Completely unrelated: I used to try to not go grocery shopping when I was hungry b/c I got tons of things I'd never eat. Now I need to do it b/c I honestly can't afford it. $70 on groceries?!? How did that happen. I actually can't afford that. Its seriously depressing, but I thought maybe with the current depression someone would understand.
I need beer.
And what better to accompany beer. The few people I know in my apartment building are fans of hard rock. Old school stuff, Led Zeppelin and a lot of Bob Dylan. I completely love and appreciate it.

We Made You
I listen to the radio a lot when I drive, mostly because the crappy pop music is awesome dancing/singing/driving music, but also because I've been too cheap to buy an i-pod radio thing. Boy, I'm technical.
Point is most of the music sucks but I have a serious soft spot for Eminem. Once I pay for utilities, I'll hopefully have enough to buy Relapse (fingers crossed).
I will be pissed if its not a good album.
For one thing, I gotta say whoever did the album art fucking sucks. They took a completely un-extraordinary picture of him and made it even worse. It looks ridiculous and he just kind of blends into the background. That is not what Photoshop is for people, its to make pictures look better and you should have enough creative sense to start with a good photo in the first place.
If Eminem isn't your thing you could always check out the latest black cab session which happens to be VV Brown who is incredible. And if you didn't think so before you will after you watch the episode. Queen of jazzy and soulful. Wish they'd let you embed videos, but you'll have to go directly to the page.

Everyone's in a band
I always wondered if Taylor Momsen's new look (the haircut, the make-up) was a Marilyn Monroe change (you know 'they put you on a treadmill and they made you change your name') but it seems like she is living up to her rock star persona. By actually pursuing a music career. And she's good too. The band is called Pretty Reckless.
Read an article about the band's debut at Spin.
Wonder which band's more likely to make it Pretty Reckless or Filthy Youth?

Supergroup
The Dead Weather consists of Alison Mosshart from The Kills, Dean Fertita from The Queens of the Stone Age, Jack Lawrence from The Raconteurs and The Greenhorns and Jack White from The Raconteurs and The White Stripes. The Ultimate supergroup. They've just released their first single 'Hang Your From The Heavens' and are due to release an album this summer. In my mind, Jack White can do no wrong.

Going Insane
The Killers have apparently had enough of each other. They haven't really had a break in the past seven years. I'm all for a little breathing room, as long as they don't split forever. They can pull through. Source Musictoob
Arcade Fire
Arcade Fire recently released a movie titled Mirror Noir. This is part one. Favorite person: the guy standing in front failing to clap in time with everyone else. You tried, buddy, you tried. Heard from Slice Magazine.

The Strokes
Hard To Explain - The Strokes
New Strokes album? Not likely in 2009 says Ryan Gentles. (NME) However, it can't hurt to start getting excited. Just a little. Perhaps start contemplating what their self-proclaimed futuristic 70's music will sound like.
Ok, no, too excited, better not think about it yet.

Matt and Kim the pop rock duo from Brooklyn were at the House of Blues on Sunday. Apparently Kim is sporting a mullet these days. If anyone could pull that off, it would be her. Read about it at The Stu Reid Experiment where you can also download a remix of their song daylight.
They released a new album in January, Grand. If you haven't heard it yet, its worth listening to.
Remember when I wrote about them before?

Oh, really?
NIN's Trent Razor say's artists often scalp their tickets. So, while you think 'god damnit it to hell', I gotta say, its pretty freakin smart. Then again, if they boost prices too high, I'm not gonna be able to afford it, and thats another empty seat... its all about the middle ground. source musictoob.

Johnny Marr
I think I decided I was going to propose to him partway through the Modest Mouse concert that I saw, however( considering how drunk I was by that point) I should've known it wouldn't pan out. Next time.
Moving on, apparently David Starr decided to try and make The Smiths go pop. Now, I know your thinking, 'how dare they do that', but really the electro disco-ish result is kind of awesome. At least now, at dance parties you don't have to play any horrific rap. Here's the original, to hear the remix go here.
